Helsinki tourism statistics

The City of Helsinki Tourist & Convention Bureau publishes a monthly statistical report on Helsinki tourism.

The report includes the latest statistical information published by Statistics Finland, the Finnish Maritime Administration and Finavia. Accommodation statistics have a two-month delay due to technical reasons.

An annual report on Helsinki tourism is published in April. A ten-year overview is also available for the years 1990-2000.

Nights in November unchanged

The growth in nights that had continued throughout the year practically came to an end in November. The increase compared with the year before was only 0.3%. Domestic nights rose by 0.8% while foreigners' nights declined slightly. The number of nights among visitors from Russia continued to rise, however, and this market accounted for onefourth of foreigners' nights in November. In any case total nights in 2011 should rise by about 6% and approach the 3.4 million mark.

The occupancy rate at accommodation establishments was 70.9% in November or the same as the year before. On the other hand the average price of accommodation, 75.81 EUR, was clearly higher than in November of last year, when the figure was 72.25 EUR. The average length of stay continued to decline, particularly among foreigners.

The number of passengers at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport increased clearly in 2011. Passengers (departing and arriving) totalled 14,865,900 for the year as a whole, up 15.5% compared with the year before. International traffic rose by 14.0% and domestic traffic by 22.6%. Passenger traffic at Helsinki's harbours increased by 6.1% through the end of November. Traffic between Helsinki and Tallinn was up 5.0%. The total number of passengers in 2011 exceeded 10 million at Helsinki's harbours for the first time.
