New Year's Eve in Helsinki

Spectacle in Senate Square

There is no disputing the fact that the climax of New Year’s Eve can be experienced in Helsinki’s Senate Square. The living room of the nation hosts this bacchanal each year. The traditional speeches and fireworks have been duly accompanied in recent years by free concerts and spectacular light installations during the Season of Light. In the nation’s capital there is no need to plan your own party – just show up at Senate Square with your friends!

If the buzz in the city centre is too much for you, you can relax and enjoy the fireworks among the locals around Töölönlahti Bay and from atop Tähtitorninmäki Hill.

Helldone Festival

Each year Finnish rock band HIM hosts a special New Year’s Eve festival at the legendary rock club Tavastia. If you enjoy dressing up in black and listening to loud guitars rather than official speeches, you won’t be disappointed! You are probably not alone, however, so make sure you reserve tickets well in advance!
