Helsinki’s open-air markets are fun places top shop in a relaxing atmosphere.
The stalls in the Market Square sell traditional foods and treats, as well as handicrafts and souvenirs. Open-air cafés in summertime are great places to sit and soak up the sun, and in wintertime heated café tents let you comfortably sip steaming hot coffee even in the coldest weather. Try a Finnish meat pie or sugar donut with your coffee! Each year in October the Market Square hosts the Herring Market, the oldest traditional event in Helsinki.
