Helsinki 20th most popular congress city

Helsinki was ranked 20th on the international list of the world’s most popular congress countries and cities for the year 2013.

The annual survey by the Union of International Associations (UIA) covers over 1,465 cities in 174 countries. Among its Nordic competitor cities, only Oslo was above Helsinki at 16th, while Copenhagen and Stockholm were left far behind at 29th and 34th respectively. Finland placed 18th in the country rankings.

The success of Helsinki in the congress field is the result of long-term and close cooperation with the congress industry. Many international associations find Helsinki an interesting congress city and it is especially due to the reliable reputation, high-quality services, excellent connections and safety of Helsinki. The financial impact of the congresses is significant to the city. Each congress guest spends almost 1,900 euros in Helsinki during his or her stay in the city.

Tens of congresses have already been confirmed for the coming years, the biggest of which is the congress of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology that will be arranged in July, 2016. The event will have approximately 8,000 participants and its financial impact will be around 15 million euros.
