Helsinki tourism statistics

The City of Helsinki Tourist & Convention Bureau publishes a monthly statistical report on Helsinki tourism.

The report includes the latest statistical information published by Statistics Finland, the Finnish Maritime Administration and Finavia. Accommodation statistics have a two-month delay due to technical reasons.

A ten-year overview is available for the years 1990-2000.

Nights up 4% in February

The rise in nights at accommodation establishments in Helsinki continued in February, with growth of 4.2% being recorded. The increase was mainly on the domestic market, which was up 7.1%. Foreigners' nights rose by 1.2%. By far
the largest foreign market in February was Russia, with nights up 14.5%. The American, Japanese, Estonian, Norwegian, Swiss and Chinese markets also developed positively. On the other hand nights fell among visitors from
Britain, Germany and Sweden in February, as was the case in January.

The occupancy rate in February was 58.8% or nearly the same as the year before. The average price of accommodation, 70.80 EUR, rose by over a euro compared with February 2011. The average length of stay in February was slightly lower than last year. Domestic visitors' average length of stay increased somewhat, but foreigners tended to stay a shorter time in Helsinki.

The number of passengers at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport was up 9.2% in January-March. Passenger traffic at Helsinki's harbours remained at the same level as the year before in January-March.
