Largest Nordic food festival in U.S. takes on the streets of West Village New York for the third time

This autumn for the third time NORTH Food Festival will take place in the West Village from September 23-28. Honest Cooking, an award-winning international online culinary magazine is behind the concept of introducing the best tastes and talents from the Scandinavian countries to New York foodies. During the festival there will be several events where people can immerse themselves in the flavors, aromas, and experience of sampling the finest that the Nordic food scene has to offer.
Finnair, Visit Helsinki and Consulate General of Finland, New York are collaborating to bring Finnish chefs for various events in New York City associated with NORTH festival.
New Nordic Cuisine has had a huge impact on the world's dining scene since it first arrived 10 years ago. NORTH Food Festival is your chance to experience the cooking of some of the world's most exciting Nordic chefs. From exclusive and intimate pop up dinners, through educational cooking classes, to fun and free events celebrating Nordic food and cooking—there is something for everyone at NORTH Food Festival 2015.
In just a short time Helsinki has developed into the home of great food. “New Nordic Cuisine” has taken over the scene and found a truly receptive audience among the trendy small restaurants that have been established in recent years by up and coming chefs. An interest from abroad towards Finnish food has also grown dramatically. There are many food related special events and festivals going on throughout the year, such as Taste of Helsinki, Restaurant Day and various Street Food festivals as well as happenings at the new center for food culture Abattoir.

Friday September 25th is Finland Day at NORTH Festival and the whole festival is celebrating Finnish cuisine, design and culture. Please join us at the NORTH Market Square for all things Finnish during a day filled with fun eating and drinking experiences. Featuring everything from BBQs, to street food, to high flying top cuisine, to delicious tastings of chocolates, licorice and dried berries and more.
High Flying Finnish Cuisine with Chef Kari Aihinen
Featuring design pieces by favorite Finnish creators, this pop-up dinner hosted at the NORTH space and cooked by Chef Kari Aihinen of the sleek legendary Helsinki restaurant Savoy will give an exclusive inside look at Finnish ingredients and cultural inspiration. Chef Kari prides himself on focusing on each ingredient on the plate as an individual flavor, always sourcing the best, sustainable items. Along with the airline Finnair, who chef Aihinen recently re-designed the business class menu for, he will show diners the true potential of gourmet Finnish food as guests’ palates are whisked away with Finnish flavors by his strong menu.
