New My Helsinki service launched – user experiences to be gathered over the summer
PRESS RELEASE 27.6.2017
MyHelsinki.fi brings together content about the city’s tourism offerings and business opportunities in a single website. The service also allows users to list their own favourites to help others enjoy the perfect city break in and around Helsinki.
The new beta version of the MyHelsinki.fi website makes it even easier for locals and visitors to find information about the latest trends, events and restaurants in Helsinki, as well as to get tips from local residents. The service will be launched on Monday 26 June at www.myhelsinki.fi.
The new website is in line with the changes to Helsinki’s city marketing strategy. The aim is to further enhance Helsinki’s international visibility and appeal, as well as to make it easier to find Helsinki’s services and offerings.
The beta version of the Myhelsinki.fi website will be launched in Finnish, Swedish and English. It will later be made available also in Japanese, Chinese, Russian and German.
The website is still under development, and the contents and functions of the service, such as the event calendar, will be fine-tuned over the summer. Service providers will be able to update their information, while users can send feedback and improvement suggestions using the online form on the Myhelsinki.fi website or by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
“My Helsinki brings together content about the city’s offerings and business opportunities in a single website. We believe that visitors and international experts who work in Helsinki are interested in the same things as we locals are. In fact, we plan to add a Neighbourhoods section to further highlight local experiences,” says Tia Hallanoro, Marketing Communications Director at Helsinki Marketing.
In keeping with the website’s service promise, Your local guide to Helsinki, all the content has been compiled by locals. The website and its services will be promoted by the likes of chef and restaurateur Antto Melasniemi, actress Seela Sella, startup entrepreneur Maria Ritola, rapper Gracias and YouTuber Mariieveronica, all of whom have contributed their own personal Helsinki tips.
Personal recommendations are overwhelmingly effective marketing tools in the social media environment. Accordingly, the updated My Helsinki service has a function that allows locals to list their own favourites and share these on social media or by e-mail.
The content of the beta version of the Myhelsinki.fi website has been compiled by Veera Luoma-aho. Content collaboration will include partners such as Arctic Startup, Design Weekly and Random Life. The website has been developed in partnership with Idean and Digia.
“It is very important to us that we attract local residents, visitors and businesses to help us develop the service. The design is based on user needs, so we gathered feedback already at the start of the project. We also look forward to receiving additional feedback after the launch of the service,” comment Head Designers Matias Vaara and Jori Larres from Idean.
Myhelsinki.fi utilises the event and location database maintained by Helsinki Marketing.
“The City of Helsinki has an exceptional amount of open data that we are trying now to utilise by highlighting local events, shops and restaurants in particular. We also have the chance to offer users individually tailored recommendations based on their user data,” Hallanoro adds.
“It’s great that Helsinki is interested in using open source code and modern, versatile methods. The MyHelsinki website demonstrates that Helsinki is keen to be a forerunner also on the technical side of digital developments,” says Niklas Lahti from Digia.
Key objectives of the Myhelsinki.fi service:
- To combine visitor and business content in one website
- To make services easy to find
- To be a tool that locals can use to share tips about what to see and experience in Helsinki
- To promote business by using open data.
